Data Privacy Day 2023: Introducing Privacy Stars
Data Privacy Day is on January 28, 2023 and at Privado we have big plans to commemorate the day. We will be recognizing the exceptional work done by individuals who are taking privacy and security to the next level within their organization and spreading awareness of data privacy across the world.
What is Data Privacy Day?
Data Privacy Day is “an international effort to create awareness about the importance of respecting privacy, safeguarding data and enabling trust.”
Initiated in 2007 by the Council of Europe and adopted in 2009 by the United States, Data Privacy Day is now observed by over 50 countries around the world.
How are we celebrating Data Privacy Day?
For 2023, we at Privado want to recognize individuals doing exceptional and innovative work to drive privacy compliance and awareness within their organizations. We want to create opportunities for these stars to highlight their work and accomplishments and share their insights with peers across the world.
Who are Data Privacy Stars?
These are privacy, security, and engineering leaders and practitioners taking privacy and security to the next level within their organization. They are innovative and creative in their approach and are accelerating privacy and security maturity.
We are taking nominations for Data Privacy Star candidates through December 23, 2022.
Candidates will be considered for one of two categories: "All-Stars", those who have considerable data privacy related achievements to show over the years. And, "Rising Stars", those who are passionately driving data privacy initiatives.
In the week before January 28, we will bring these stars to light, making their insights available and hosting dinners in various locations for the stars and their peers.

What does it mean to be a Data Privacy Star?
It means that you are truly moving the needle to advance data privacy best practices and your organization is lucky to have you.
Beyond that, there are no hard commitments being a star. This first cohort will set the ground for what is possible. At the very least, we want to shower stars with recognition and provide them with opportunities to share their insights on data privacy best practices, the challenges they observe, and what comes next for data privacy.
Activities that Data Privacy Stars will be invited to participate in include being a star guest on a Privacy Insights virtual interview, joining a dinner with other Data Privacy Stars and fellow privacy minded professionals on the week of January 23, and potentially joining other events and gatherings geared towards this cohort of stars.
